Protect your Privacy & Save Money
There are so many reasons to shred your
documents, here are a few of the most important.
The Law
Legislation starting
in the 90's began requiring companies to dispose of sensitive materials that could jeopardize employees, customers, or trade
secrets. Here are a few key pieces of legislation.
The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) of 1999 requires banking and financial institutions
across the US to protect the confidentiality and security of consumer data. The
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1995 requires that healthcare organizations across the
US be responsible for the secure electronic transmission of patient information and the secure storage and disposal of that
information. The Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act of 2003 (FACTA) added
new sections to the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, intended primarily to help consumers fight the growing crime of identity
theft. Accuracy, privacy, limits on information sharing, and new consumer rights to disclosure are included in FACTA.
Your Customers
When you collect data from your
customers you enter an implied contract to protect that data. While social security numbers and credit card
numbers are extremly important to keep private there are many other less obvious types of information that is also requred
to be protected.
Your Employees
Employees
have a legal right to have their personal informaiton protected. Make your employees feel secure and respected by shredding
anything that could possibly compromise their identity.
Your Image
Companies that do not outsource shredding are much more susceptible to leaked trade secrets or other
confidential material. Let your customers and investors know that you are doing everything you can to protect your property.

We are too small to outsource our shredding
|
Smaller offices
can end up saving even more than larger offices. With fewer employees and productivity even more important,
outsourcing shredding can save offices hundreds while increasing productivity. Shred-Ex has plans and containers
specifically for small offices that may only need pick-ups every few months.

It's too expensive to outsource shedding
|
Outsourcing can actually save money,
if you consider the amount of time it takes an employee to determine which documents need shredding, and then to manually
shred the documents the average office spends over 10 hours a month. At $10 dollars an hour the hidden
cost of shredding can be thousands per year.

|
We don't have anything that needs shredding
|
Every industry is affected by shredding;
even personal homes should consider shredding. Beyond the increasing rise of identity theft, new laws and
regulations such as FACTA and HIPPA mandate companies to shred documents that have any personal information of employees such
as social security numbers or even birthdays.

We have a personal shredder
|
While personal shredders are a good
first step for businesses, they break often and have limited capacities. The cost of buying, repairing,
and using them far exceeds the cost of outsourcing. Additionally, shredded paper can be pieced back together;
at Shred-Ex our shredded paper goes straight to the recycling facility instead of sitting in bins.

We are using a national chain
|
The reality is that there are no national
chains in Vermont, if you are using one they are merely outsourcing your business to a company. This means
you are padding the pockets of two companies, and plus why not support a local Vermont business.
